i enjoyed the wide ranging discussion. at the end of it i became curious what the heck 'literary fiction' is. i had a very bad experience of 'literary fiction' in the university publications when i was taking english and looking to get my fiction published. that was even forcefully confirmed when i was introduced to and did a deep dive with one of the british canon literary writers, john dryden. so, what is 'literary fiction'?
i love both finnegan's wake and paradise lost, altlhough i've not read them cover to cover. both are for me to be taken in smaller sips and every once and i will i jump into the wake to wake up the possibility of the deepest play states of language. and i love lost because milton's description of the devil is so rich and wonderful! way more alive than god, for god's sake.
arx-han commented about being for whatever reason naturally optimistic even while discussion some pretty bleak sounding possibilities around the evolution of ai into the human sphere. lb, it seems you are less optimistic? frequently you referenced being conspiratorial in a way that suggested that doom and gloom was hiding in the broom closet - if not out in the open as a kind of elephant in the living room.
and a small slip. you asked arx-han if he had read 'children of job'. of course you meant 'the book of job' because 'children of job' is jasun horsley's substack — also a great resource.
we are living the bhagavad-gita wedded to the great apocalypse! all the best with what is changing. everything changes! with peace, respect, love and equanimous enthusiasm.
This interview is even more fun than the first one. The last part was sobering as I came to the same realisation that those of us who read are becoming a relic in this post-literary world.
Fun conversation! Had a lot of fun listening to it. Totally agree with the benediction about being grateful for what we have and not being greedy for higher counts.
hola, lb.
